“Oh my God what do I see, over my shoulder
Now that a year’s gone by
can’t escape this memory, its burning brighter
Now that a year’s gone by”
-Hootie and The Blowfish.
True that another year has gone by. In my part of the world, it is already new years and the year 2012 has started! As much as I would like to pretend to be Buddha and ask for world peace, I would probably reluctantly gravitate towards something else.
A few hours back, I heard someone say that it is going to be just another day that will bring a meager change in the date. The fact that a lot of people fail to come in terms with, is that there is definitely more to it. There is something beyond the change in the date.
For me, it is a time to start afresh. The new year has not only brought a change in the date but alongside it is also carrying an eerie and new hope, a bizarre drive that is making me feel more ambitious than ever.
As I write this, I can hear the sound of fireworks outside. There is an intense excitement in the air and an electric feel to the atmosphere and I can sense it. As the clock is ticking by, I am making myself think about all those people in different corners of planet earth, who are perhaps cooking their new year’s plans.
The great thing is that people of every race, religion, color and identity have gathered with the spirit of new years eve. It is indeed magical how even for a second people decide to forget about their differences, share a smile or two and stand together to welcome the new year!
Plus, if you have never done it before, allow this year to push your limits, experience new things and break free from whatever has stopped you this long!
Be it Tokyo, Hong Kong or Sydney, every part of this globe has drowned in the roars of laughter, glee and joy. So let’s just wish secretly that this year is not just a change in the date. Instead, look forward to an enticing and fantasmagorical year.
